Terminology management is the collection, description and implementation of the internal, company specific jargon or the terminology of a subject field.
The idea behind translation memories is to store the original texts and their translations in a database, broken down into manageable units, generally one sentence long (see: Alignment). Over time, enormous collections of sentences and their corresponding translations are built up in the database. Translation memory systems allow translators and translation agencies to recycle these translated segments.
